Yeatman. The first edition of the work published in book format, with several portions of the work having previously appeared in Punch. With numerous witty monochrome vignette illustrations by the illustrator and cartoonist John Reynolds, including a frontispiece titled 'Magna Garter&apos.This is a playful revised history of England by two humourists and contributors to the renowned satirical magazine Punch: Walter Carruthers Sellar and Robert Julian Yeatman. Opening with the sly observation that history 'is what you can remember', the book proceeds to put forward an unorthodox account of Julius Caesar's invasion of Britain, the rules of the various monarchs, and of the Crimean War, amongst other major events. It also includes regular mock tests for its reader, to ensure they remain up to speed. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart with slight fading to the spine's cloth and some minor marks to the boards. A touch of bumping and rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and the extremities, resulting in some very fractional loss of the cloth in these areas.
